College Lacrosse 101

Led by College Coaches and Recruiting Coordinators, this program will take parents and players through the College Lacrosse experience from the recruiting process straight through to graduation and beyond.  This program is for both Girls and Boys players.

Recruiting Seminar:

This program is led by Bucknell University Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Ryan Danehy.  Coach Danehy played at Dartmouth College and has also coached at Dartmouth, Michigan and the University of Pennsylvania.  Ryan also has Professional and International coaching experience, both on the field and in the box.  Coach Danehy will walk players and parents through the entire process of recruiting.  He will discuss rules and regulations, procedures, what coaches are looking for and what you should be doing to maximize your opportunities throughout the process.  We will solicit questions in advance to be able to efficiently answer as many questions as possible, and we will also have an open discussion at the end.

Parents are encouraged to bring chairs and sit in the designated parent’s area.  This will give them an up close and personal experience themselves.  It will also allow you to see how coaches run a practice and interact with players.

The Life of a College Lacrosse Player:  Being a Student Athlete.

We will discuss what you should expect on the field and off the field throughout the school year. During this discussion we will discuss topics such as:

  • Typical schedule throughout the year
  • Non Lacrosse workouts and expectations
  • Academic Support
  • Curriculum Support
  • Nutritional Support

 

6:30 – 8:30 pm
College Practice Experience 1

Coach JB Clarke will conduct a practice for the boys that made him immensely successful at Limestone College and he has brought to the University of Tampa.  From warm up through end of practice break down, players will get an idea of the tempo and complexity of a college level practice.  Coaches Danehy and Colacino will do the same for the girls.

Wednesday December 8th Schedule:
6:00 – 8:00 pm

College Practice Experience 2

Coach Kirwan will run practice for the boys.  He will show how things are run at Back to Back National Champion University of Virginia.   This will give the players an idea of the range of skills, drills and ideas that coaches have. Coaches Danehy and Colacino will give the girls another look at what they would experience in college.

Wrap up and answer any final questions that players or parents may have.
